Forgotten Histories, Understanding Black Canadian History

This session uncovers the hidden histories of Black Canadians. Attendees will learn about the 400 year history of Black Canadians and Black trailblazers who have made important contributions to Canada.

Anti-Black Racism 101

Participants will leave with an understanding of the unique nature of systemic racism on Black Canadians.  Participants will also:

  • learn about Black history in Canada and how it informs current Anti-Black racism initiatives;
  • understand concepts of trauma and racial stress caused by Anti-Black racism;
  • reflect on concepts of racial identity and privilege and how ABR work can be integrated into your daily lives;
  • analyze statistics and lived experiences to challenge bias, inequity and social injustices; and
  • identify strategies to engage in difficult conversations that lead to sustainable solutions to enhance the workplace culture.
